The Macromolecular Crystallisation Facility of the University of Southampton based at the IfLS (Institute for Life Sciences), uses technology originally developed for high-throughput structural genomics programmes. This technology enables us to rapidly gain access to 3D structural information on macromolecules that are being investigated in research programmes. The facility provides crystallisation experiments, on-line access to the evaluation of these experiments and thus acts as a hub to integrate structural work into investigations of biological phenomena.

Equipment

Bruker AXS Robot for Crystal Mounting (Crystal Harvester)

The robot automatically mounts crystal samples.
Micron-resolution facilitates mounting of even the
smallest crystal quickly and easily. Remote control
is extremely useful for the mounting of air sensitive
samples inside a glove box.Rotational optics allow you to produce interactive, 3-D movies of the crystal. Your crystal will be imaged overa range of 60 degrees without moving the sample. You can easily search for defects in your crystal, or create presentations and visual teaching aids.
