WAGNER'S 'THE FLYING DUTCHMAN'

Wednesday 7th September 2022, 7:30pm

This September, OperaUpClose, in partnership with Manchester Camerata (‘Britain’s most adventurous orchestra’ The Times), present Wagner’s masterpiece The Flying Dutchman in an immersive production inspired by the original ghost story, re-told as a haunting, contemporary, political tale.

Glyn Maxwell’s re-imagined English version depicts an island nation struggling with its identity in a world of displaced people; with Laura Bowler’s new 8-piece chamber orchestration featuring recorded local community choirs from across the UK alongside a cast of internationally renowned opera singers.

A radical new Carmen… intelligently conceived and extraordinarily well-sung. ★★★★ WhatsOnStage (2015)
