Get ready for an unforgettable night with one of the best banjoists in the history of New Orleans!
Don Vappie is a Creole banjoist and vocalist from New Orleans. He is the living embodiment of 300 years of the city’s music and unique melting pot of cultures. He is known for his nurturing approach to Creole culture and its preservation.
Honouring the tradition of his predecessor, banjoist Danny Barker, Vappie has kept the Créole songs of New Orleans alive . He has been honoured with awards from Créole society for preserving this cultural treasure.
Vappie is also the banjoist and guitarist in Wynton Marsalis’ Jazz at the Lincoln Center band. He was winner of the Steve Martin Banjo Prize 2021 and inducted into the Banjo Hall of Fame 2022.
Expect an evening that combines all genres of New Orleans from traditional to modern day funk with the classic early tradition of a string band. The result is ‘Jazz Créole’.
