We are delighted to introduce the first Centre for Democratic Futures ‘Take over’ which will be hosted by the School of Biological Sciences on Wed 13th November 2024 @2pm B85/2207 (and teams) with  Arjun Awasthi, Faculty of Social Sciences presenting his research into Ex-Situ and In-Situ Wildlife  Conservation: Looking at the Great Indian Bustard  Recovery Program.

Abstract

The wildlife conservation of a critically endangered species is complicated. There are many stakeholders, at the local, national, and international level. This seminar will introduce the biology of the Great Indian Bustard and IUCN red list species in India. There will be a discussion about ex-situ versus in-situ conservation strategies, and finally I shall draw on my personal experience working on the Bustard Recovery Program where I incubated, hatched, and reared 10 of the rarest chicks in the world.
